Something is wrong with Kaylee Cavanaugh.
She doesn't see dead people, but…
She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next…My Soul to Take
is my first foray in the writing of Rachel Vincent. I’d come across her name and her books in bookstores before, but never been much inclined to actually take the initiative and purchase any her writings. Well, until the lovely Amber began writing raving reviews on Vincents’books that is...
I am so very glad that I took her advice! I loved My Soul to Take
right from the beginning. The main character Kaylee is relatable and has many modern day flaws you would expect from a high school student trying to fit in. She isn't perfect – which is great, because no-one is ever perfect.
Then there’s Kaylee's love interest Nash. He's... complicated. Yeah, that's the right word. He's also mysterious. Very little really happened between them relationship wise, which was nice. But what did happen was, in my eyes, in context with the story. Of course, the relationship will probably blossom in future books.
Overall, My Soul to Take
was a fabulous debut foray for me into the writing of Rachel Vincent. Her characters, plotlines and premise are wonderfully written and I can’t wait to read the others in the series!
